

Lawmakers and youth leaders rally in front of the U.S. Capitol to address the influx of mass shootings.

Washington D.C. — Representative Maxwell Frost of Florida and State Representative Justin Jones of Tennessee hosted a rally in front of the U.S. Capitol Wednesday to address the issue of gun violence and what they say is an “attack on democracy.”
The rally which was titled “Young and Fed Up” had gathered over 40 participants including students, youth leaders, activists and lawmakers who yelled chants, held signs and made remarks regarding the political climate of the nation today.
The rally comes a month after mass shootings and incidents of gun violence around the nation including a mass shooting at Covenant School in Nashville Tennessee where a 28-year-old and former student identified as ​​Audrey E. Hale opened fire killing six people, including three children and three adults.
A week later another mass shooting in Louisville, Kentucky at Old National Bank where a gunman and employee opened fire killing five people.
“We come with a message from the Tennessee Capital to the U.S. Capitol, that we are fed up with the attacks on our democracy,” Representative Justin Jones of Tennessee said. “That we are fed up with the endless cycle of mass shootings, that we are fed up with legislators and politicians who traffic in the politics of racism.”
Tennessee Representative Justin Jones who was present at the rally made remarks regarding had been expelled but reinstated two weeks earlier along with his colleagues Rep. Justin Pearson and Rep. Gloria Johnson
Gun violence which has killed 13,959 people in the U.S. this year alone, has also divided Democrats and Republicans down the party line, with some arguing in favor of the second amendment with others calling for more gun control laws.
